trying to get timeline info correct for STMicroelectronics
1957 SGS (Società Generale Semiconduttori) was founded << logo unknown
1959 Ates (Aquila Tubi e Semiconduttori) was founded << logo unknown
1961 Ates changed name to Azienda Tecnica ed Elettronica del Sud
1971 SGS-Ates was formed (merger of SGS & Ates)
1976? early logo? http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/files/grey_traces_819.jpg
logo till till early 1981 http://www.chipdb.org/data/media/756/SGS_Z80ACPUD1_wep.jpg
1981 Mostek purchased by SGS-Ates (Mostek branding still used until 1985) << appears incorrect
logo used from early 1981 even before name change in 1985
http://www.chipdb.org/data/media/1309/SGSZ8400BB1.jpg
1982 Thomson Semiconducteurs was formed from following companies
Thomson (semiconductor section)
Mostek << how can this be so if SGS-Ates bought in 1981??? << appears incorrect
Silec
Eurotechnique
EFCIS
SESCOSEM
1985 SGS-Ates renamed to SGS Microelettronic
1987 SGS Microelettronic & Thomson Semiconducteurs (non Military section only) merged to form SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics
logo used http://www.chipdb.org/img-st-z84c00ab6y-2237.htm
1998 name changed to STMicroelectronics after Thomson (parent company?) sold its ownership
same logo as previous maintained
there is more info to add, but just wanted basics sorted out first
any comments will be helpful
points I'm wondering about are
early SGS-Ates logo
that SGS-Ates changed their logo to just SGS long before they changed their company name
and the issue about Mostek ownership
Re Mostek.. there is info around that it was
sold to to SGS-Ates in 1981 << appears incorrect
merged to form Thompson Semiconducteurs in 1982 << appears incorrect
sold to Thompson in 1985
sold to SGS-Ates in 1985 << appears incorrect
sold to SGS Microelettronic in 1985 _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:
