Hiya.
As you must know by now, I rarely collect pre 386 CPU's as I am unsure as to what I am buying - But I would like to learn a bit more about them.
There are a few terms that I am familiar with, but don't understand the meaning.
mil-spec IC's
EEPROM's
IC's
Are these CPU's? Sorry for sounding so dumb. |

No dumb questions, only dumb answers.
You should search google for a more in depth explanation...
IC's = Integrated Circuits.... essentially anything in a chip/can etc, but watch out for resistor networks. They are not IC's.
EEROMS = non volatile electronic memory, easy to spot the UV erasable type as they have a window or a sticker covering the window.
milspec IC's = as it implies.. miltary spec, usually high temperature rating and designed to withstand operating conditions that "normal" chips dont. Its not always as glamorous as it sounds, normal IC's can be just as good in the same application. |

ahhh.. I see.
So all my CPU's are known as IC's aswell... (a broad term)
and I don't collect eeproms then! |

I should expand on my post, eeproms are electronically erasable programmable read only memory. They are a step up from eproms ( which normally have to be removed to be erased ). Eproms will have a window, eeproms dont eeproms are generally newer and as a rule have superseded eproms.
Some people collect them, I don’t. |
