Hey guys, LTNS Razz I've been a bit busy getting fired and moving Smile

Anyhow, I'm starting a computer store in a small town here. I've hit a snag though, I can't for the life of me think of a decent name.

You guys are a pretty smart bunch, so I was hoping some of your suggestions might at least give me some ideas of my own..

On a related note, I've also got a website for it as well.. The site is meant to double both as a way for customers to see what I've got, and for me to track what I've got. It's not an online store though, so you can't order anything through it. I'd appreciate any feedback or suggestions about it:

Thanks!

If I'd have to name a computer related company I tried to get a name that might be the email adress as well, so prefix+"at"+domain.toplevel is a speakable word.
I never searched for english words fitting the syntax *at???*.ca but maybe there's something.

In german I only got annoying or stupid things like mon@sbin.de
haha, toooo stupid.

I leave this idea not for free, just for $1.99 and I'd like to buy that Lisa on your above mentioned website;-)

Anyway, all the best for your new business!

I made a random computer store name generator:

http://www.stoofoo.net/rand.x

and through that, came up with 'ChetMicro' .. (chet is short for chetwynd, the name of the town.. people outside the town 'dont get it', but everyone here will understand it.. micro of course, is computerish.)

anyhow, ive run it by a few people and it seems to be well accepted

wepwawet, since you mentioned being a graphic designer, id appreciate your feedback on this logo.. im thinking about increasing the contrast of it a bit, but its not looking too bad.

fun fact: the colors are (more or less) 'intel blue' and 'amd green' Smile

so heres my logo

Hi,

thanks for the confidence:-)

I think it is a good solution that the dynamic element is very close, partly overlapping the typo but it doesn't dirsturb the readability.
That's the main mistake people do when creating a logo.
When the brand is well-known it doesn't matter if vou can easily read it but for a new business you need to decide for an abstract logo+text or a typographical element (what you did) that then NEEDS to be readable (what is in this case).
The rest is simply personal taste.
I like it.

oh,

I forgot a small detail:
the distance between element and letter is more wide on the left than on the right.
The right version looks better, you should modify the left one.

Phone intel in your country, and ask them the process/ Don't Email - PHONE. lol Smile

AS FOR amd. Get in touch with a distributor, ie Actebis / Microtronica or Computer 2000 and ask them.

never noticed that, but youre right

i rearranged it, the tips of the swooshes are now 40 pixels from the top or bottom of their letter, and 10 pixels from the edge of the letter (the right one was oriainally 39 and 8, but i like even numbers).. thats on the full size template of course.. i sized it down for here..

it still looks a bit off, even though theyre the exact same. i guess the angle of the letters and everything is making a bit of an optical illusion

jepp, better:-)

did you try a version with changed fore/background?
so that that . of the "i" is not covered.
I am just wondering wether this or the other version is more positive or "upwards"

I like the upper one much better, a colleague of mine agreed. The covered I is a little disturbing, the other version is more positive.
The swosh distance before was better. Now it's too close.
The distances between the letters should not be much more wide than the covering swoshes.
