hi all,

looking to replace/upgrade the CPU in my pcg-fx 220 (sony motherboard MBX-49, part number 1-680-358-31), currently features PIII (750), 1.6V, socket 478, 24.6 watts. i know this same generation cam with 1ghz chips but i cannot locate replacement info on other intel chips that would fit. any help will be greatly appreciated

PIII socket 478... something isn't right?

Sony motherboard? do sony make mainboards? Confused

It's probably a mobile Pentium III-M. They have microPGA-478 package, which is different from microPGA-478 packages used by Pentium 4 and Pentium M.

I wouldnt bother! Chances are you'll end up damaging the laptop in the process. There will be little performance gain, put in as much memory and a bigger HD instead.
