|

Greetings from Spain.
My question is simple, does exists a Pentium 4 3,06GHz 512K Northwood with 400MHz FSB?
Intel official's page claims it's a 533MHz FSB cpu.
On the other hand, the acer travelmate 256LC manual specifications says it's 400Mhz.
Thanks in advance. |

[wrong]Pentium 4 3.0 GHz 512K Northwood with Hyper-Threading and 400MHz fsb is exist, search "sl6wk".
Even 3.2 and 3.4 GHz are exist.
But it's relatively rare and expensive chips.[/wrong]
I am sorry, I was wrong (confused with 400 and 800 fsb).
Answer - it has 533 fsb, because max. Northwood frequency with 400 fsb was 2.8 (sl7ey) and 3.0 (sl6yh).
And simple way to test - 3.06 is impossible to produce from 100 (real clock of 400 fsb),
but easy from 133: 133x23=3060

There is three desktop 400fsb northwoods that run at 3.00GHz,
but as frag says, a 3.06GHz processor is definitely 533fsb |

Well, my doubt now is if I could upgrade my laptop (acer Travelmate 240)cpu with a Pentium 4 Northwood 512K L2 and 533MHz FSB socket 478 mPGA.
Travelamate 240/250 series have apparently same BIOS and mobo.
Travelmate 240 series mounted Celeron (Northwood) from 2,4GHz to 2,8GHz with 128K L2 and 400FSB
Travelmate 250 series mounted Pentium 4 2,4GHz; 2,6GHz; 2,66GHz; 2,8GHz; 3,06GHz. With 2,4GHz there are 400 and 533FSB cpu´s, 2,6GHz and 2,8GHz are 400FSB, finally 2,66GHz and 3,06GHz are 533FSB.
The manuals I´ve seen from models of the 250 series claim all the processors are 400FSB, including the one with 3,06GHz.
What do you think? |

If 240 and 250 series differs only in cpu and have the same chipset and bios,
then your mobo can use 533 bus and using 3.06 GHz Northwood is possible,
hope cooler can handle increased heat output.
But if your Travelmate 240 supprot only 400 bus, then it would be work at 2.3 GHz only. |

Chipset (852GME) and BIOS as far as I Know are the same, more to say 852GME supports 400/533FSB.
Actually i have a SL6VV celleron 2,6GHz with 62,6W TDP, willing to upgrade it to a Pentium 4 2,4GHz 533FSB with 59,8 TDP or a 2,66GHz 533FSB with 66W TDP.
I made my first attempt of upgrading with a Mobile Pentium 4-M 2,2GHz 35W TDP but my BIOs only recognizes a 1,2GHz Celeron (12x100) |

Hi everybody,
I have an acer travelmate 244 LC too and i would like to change my processor which is a celeron 2,6 Ghz (SL6VV) with a pentium 4 at 3,06 Ghz (SL726). I red your posts here but it not still clear if the machine will support.
I have the service manual for travelmate 240-250 series. The bios is the same for both models, version 1.14 which can be upgraded to v.1,15, motherboard is the same ICH4-M also chipset 852GNE (Montana)-GT) as guest mentioned,
Pentium 4 was mounted to 250 models and Celeron to 240 models.
The difference is between:
a) 240 models, 400 fsb at voltage 1,525-1,55 high speed and 1,2 low speed
b) 250 models, 533 fsb at voltage 1,525 all
Did someone succeed in upgrading ? |
