NTT develops high-quality MPEG-2 CODEC chip

The new chip can simultaneously encode and decode MPEG-2 video with resolution 480/60 (progressive), or encode only with resolution up to 720/30 (progressive). The chip is manufactured in 0.13 micron technology and has more than 30 million transistors.
