Always sounds like a much better deal when you get the board as well (assuming it all works fine) without too much extra cost

Frassl price not too bad. I have seen these go for that much cost + shipping on ebay. One thing to watch is that not all DEC Alpha boards have sockets, some are soldered directly to the board. If you try to de-solder, then be careful not to heat the chip so much that the SMT resistors on the top come loose. I did that once....
