| Hello. I'm glad to find this site and hope to be helpful. Upgrading Dell Inspiron 1545. New RAM, SSD work fine. Replaced CPU T4400 with P9700. Laptop will not start, at all. Power light flashes very quickly, then it is dead. Put T4400 chip back in, all is well. All info I find clearly says P9700 should work, no problem. But it doesn't and I cannot find any obvious reason. Any help here? Thanks very much in advance. |

| yes, bios is latest. what do you mean by "grey text"? |

| Thank you, CPUShack. I don't know about any of the items you listed, nor what a "chipset" is. All I know is using google and the internet I found several places (various forums, websites, companies, etc., and the seller itself) that said the computer supported the cpu and vice versa. Nowhere did I find the reverse opinion or any advice about your listed items. T4400, original OEM cpu, 9 years old, works fine before and after replacing with P9700, and computer will not power up with the brand new P9700 installed. Is it most likely a defective cpu, or most likely something else and if so, what would cause it? That's the question I was hoping to get answered here, or somewhere. Thanks again! |

ooof disregard the previous content of this reply. I made a mistake with the chipset used.
It could be a faulty processor? Otherwise, have you updated your BIOS? Dell's support page should have a download available.
In my brief time looking, I did not find any of these running with a 'P' processor, so it may be a bios compatibility thing? Maybe look for a 'T' chip like the T9600, etc.
You could also pick up an X9100 for not much more and get a very nice performance bump. |
