First we have this one

Its a Cx486DLC-25GP, mid life production
and has added: Heatsink-33

So apparently if it had a heatsink (judging by the glue it had on it it did) it could run happily at 33MHz.

Perhaps, only way to know is to look under the heatsink Smile

Wowah! Was it expected that all these DLC chips have a heatsink on them for normal operation? Since so many of them are found bare in the wild, I just assumed they were run bare.

33-40MHz typically had heatsinks on them

25s didnt seem to need them

Did they all fall off prior to hitting eBay and CPU-World? Why do I never find them with heatsinks? Maybe I should add it to my list of CPUs to look out for. PGA-132 heatsinks could come in very handy.

And did the TI 486DLC's come with heatsinks as well? Never seen one of those. What about the SXL?

because most the ones on eBay are from scrap, and scrappers yank them.

Only seen them on a TI once or twice I think

in a decent case with good airflow its probably not a problem, but some applications probably warranted it

Got a photo of the TI 386 heatsink?

Have any extra Cyrix 386 heatsinks? This was my solution, to cut down a 486 heatsink/fan and use the retaining clips. https://www.vogons.org/download/file.php?id=33344&mode=view

TI one was nothing special, just glued on generic aluminum

I had a spare from a Cyrix DRx2 somewhere , if I find it I'll let ya know

probably work to use one from a graphics card or chipset too

DRx2 heatsink would be nice to have! No rush though.

Well, for the 486 heatsink w/clips, I wanted a removable 386 heatsink as I tend to swap chips out a lot for testing.

Here's a few more pics of it.

I made a second one a year later which was a lot cleaner on the the seam.

Do you know if the SXL2-66 3.6 V units on QFP-to-PGA interposer by Evergreen came with a heatsink?

This is what I'm referring to, https://www.vogons.org/download/file.php?id=43455&mode=view

I've never seen one of these with a heatsink. The PGA-168 versions all appear to have heatsinks and also run at 3.6 V. I'm hesitant to run my QFP SXL2-66 without a heatsink, but I'll have to create something to clip onto the interposer somehow.

I havent seen enough to know, though the best way is to see if they have heatsink glue/residue on them

Mine didn't have any residue, but previous owner could have cleaned it? Two other Vogons guys have ended up with these chips as well, but no heatsink. I suppose I could use an IR temperature gun to check the surface temperature at load to ensure it is under rated temp.
