Hello,
I have AMD Phenom II X6 1100T + ASUS M5A88-M + 2x4GB Kingston 1600MHz memory.
cpu-world.com shows this CPU supports Supported memory: DDR2-1066, DDR3-1333 and some DDR2.
Motherboard supports DDR3-1066 MHz up to 2000 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory (4 x DIMM, Max. 16GB).
So, the questions are:
If this CPU supports DDR3-2000 MHz memory chips?
Why the motherboard is limited to 4x4 Gb RAM and if it is possible to remove this limit updating BIOS?
Also. "There are 2 memory controllers", a comment at the CPU page here.
Does it mean I can add 2000 MHz memory and some part of the RAM will be accessible at 1600 MHz speed, another at 2000, or all memory will work at the lowest speed (1600)?
One more question. I can not find any 2000-MHz DDR3 memory bank in the biggest online shop in our country. There is 2133 MHz (all sold out and looks like last available price was too overpriced), hundred of 1866 MHz and plenty of 1600 MHz kits. Why?
And the last. Is there any real sense to upgrade RAM from 1600 to 1866? This means to sell my 2x4G and buy 4x4G. |

Anything higher than what is listed here is technically an overclock on the memory controllers of the CPU. Can it do it? Maybe. You'll have to try your silicon to find out.

When the X6 was released, 8 GB DIMM's weren't yet available. A BIOS update might help, but will not guarantee support. I have a couple 8 GB DIMM's that work on Sandy Bridge, but not Nehalem CPU's, for example. I'll try it out on my 1090T to see if I can get 8 GB DIMM's working at all.

Unfortunately, both controllers must operate at the same frequency. I do not know of any CPU or chipset that can do as you ask. The RAM will be limited by the slowest set.

Not too sure on this one. My guess would be that 2133 was much more cost-effective, and the budget conscious stuck to 1333.

In my experience, I never really saw any improvements from above 1600 MHz. Synthetic benchmarks might show some improvement, but it never changed the systems performance or responsiveness in actual tasks, for me.[/code] |

OK, I should ask ASUS support for any BIOS upgrade thay may support 8G DIMMs.

OK, I expected this.
1600 MHz are cheaper then DDR with any higher frequencies, so I just think either to add 2 more 4G DIMMs or upgrade all DIMMs...
P.S. Wikipedia says there is NO DDR3 2000 MHz. Only 1600, 1866 and 2133 MHz. So I really do not understand what the hell ASUS write on their website at my MB specs page. Maximal theoretical frequency? OK, so max. is 1866 and this is one more question to ask ASUS. |

Do not confuse this with memory speed. This is Hypertransport, which IIRC is a bus that handles many things inside the CPU and also with the chipset. I believe there's also a relation with memory clock that is of concern when overclocking.

HyperTransport is the link between the processor cores, so is internal only and not related to the memory controller.

My Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P rev 5.0 with a 1090T posts in a 2x8GB configuration at 1600 MT/s.
/also, compaed to my Ryzen machine, this thing posts REALLY fast./ |

Your GA-78LMT-S2P has 2 slots up to 16 GB so it must support 8GB DIMMs.
In my case, there are 4 slots. |

| Asus told no 8G DIMMs support (they told it like they are not going to fix it), 2000 Mhz is the max. overclocked speed of RAM. The support is very slow, so I still do not know if it wont recognize 2133 Mhz DIMMs or they will work on 2000 max. |
