Hello, hopefully this is the right place for this kind of question:
im wondering if the new computer i bought my son is going to be any faster then his previous one. His main concern is opening multiple tabs for his school research.
current one is Lenovo Ideapad 310 which has 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i3-7100U Processor (2.40GHz, 3MB Cache), 4 GB DDR4 2133 MHz, 802.11 AC (1 x 1)
and new one is Asus Chromebook c425ta which has Intel® Core™ m3-8100Y, 8 GB Onboard memory, Wi-Fi 5 (802.11 ac (2x2)
thank you for any help or to point me to a better place for this question.
thank you,
Kevin |

Core i3 7100U is slightly faster (let´s say 10-20%), because of higher power limit. Core M is CPU dedicated for ultraportable lightweight devices with longer battery life. But main bottleneck of your Lenovo laptop is 4GB ram, so chromebook will perform better. You can of course upgrade ram in Lenovo. Do you know that Lenovo is Windows laptop and Chromebook has Android system? _________________ Looking For Chips 386 J38605DX, Symphony FPU, Rise Tiger, MP6-II, Winchip 3&4, IDT C6-Early Logo, Nx686, Tesla 8088, L80C86, Bulgarian 8088, Pentium 4 QT69ES. |

The Chromebook runs ChromeOS, not Android (though I think there is a compatibility layer for some apps?), but yes, misace is correct. _________________ My WTB List

Yes, im aware it is on ChromeOS. my son's school work is all done through google drive, and that is the main use of this computer. I was hoping the 8GB memory would make a significant difference in the speed (vs the 4gb on lenovo) when opening numerous tabs. And, being more lightweight and portable was important to him also.
thank you. |
