I ended up with a whole lot of these
They are Zilog Z86E40 8-bit MCUs made on a CMOS process and running at 12MHz.
They are an enhanced Z8 core with an expanded register set.
It also introduces a low-EMI mode which slows the clock to 4MHz and changes some output characteristics to reduce EMI emissions.
These are New Old Stock in a PLCC44 package
