|
|
Hi all, I recently put a couple unmarked Intel i7 mobile ES chips up for sale.
http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32481
I only managed to get one to work (It ended up being an i7-820QM ES).
CPUID dump: http://www.cpu-world.com/cgi-bin/CPUID.pl?CPUID=66269
Is there any reason these don't have any sort of part number or lot code? They seem to have a very basic sequential serial code, but nothing else.
Are these reject chips? early internal ES parts? something else entirely? The one that had a date code was very early in relation to the release of the final chip.
EDIT: The chip I got working might actually be an i7-840QM, as it was idling at 1.86GHz. I'll confirm this over the weekend. cpu-z was reporting it as an i7-820QM ES, but this may be incorrect.
EDIT 2: HWInfo64 reports the chip as a Q3B9 (QS)

I will try to do this tomorrow afternoon. |

Here's the validation: http://valid.x86.fr/m4fs67
The bus speed seems to be running a little higher than its supposed to. Might explain the speeds being closer to the i7-840QM rather than the i7-820QM. There are no options to change the bus speed in the laptop's BIOS, so this must be some weird behavior of the chip. (maybe that's why it never got marked?) |

Just got more of these. Won't be able to test the rest of them for a week or so, but another chip was reported as a Q3SE in hwinfo64, so maybe I'll get some more working. _________________ My collection |

I just got email back from Intel on those processors.
Apparently they're old engineering samples, and they were meant to be disposed of by Intel. |

Do they always say that the CPU was meant to be discarded? |

Yeah. They usually say it should have been discarded or destroyed and that they're not meant for sale, etc etc. _________________ My WTB List
