I didn't see an area for site suggestions so I will put this here...

We are in the year 2019, it is time to raise the size limit allowed for uploading pictures to the site. Most photo's these days are around 2MB - 6MB in size when taken with a phone. I shouldn't have to decrease the quality of the image just so I can post it.

350KB is unrealistic for this day and age and needs to be updated and brought in line with 2019.

Most members manage to post reasonable quality images within the size limits.

Also, pictures direct from cameras and phones can be of such high resolution that it messes with the layout as the picture is wider than most screens and the forum elements are trying to scale based on a screen width. The 350kb limit forces people to scale images appropriately.

I should also add that as someone who often accesses this site via a link with per megabyte charges, I'm glad for its lack of bulky images.

For very high resolution photos there are external services like for example : ibb.co

When I upload here directly I use Gimp to decrease resolution and compression level. After that photo is enough big to see details.

Yeah I can easily send decent pictures while using less than 1/2 of the limit or so. Otherwise host yourself the pictures or use an external service.

Let's not go along with the trend of bloated software, I want to be able to use the forum with a Pentium 2 233 MHz :p

Says the dude who put insanely huge pictures for his sales

Most phone cameras take huuuuuuuge pictures. I often scale my pictures down to 20% of their original size (and my camera is crap) and they are still huge. I think the size limit is fine (JPG compression works wonders here)

Just use a free image hosting service and then you can still display decent sized pictures here and then people just have to click on the picture to see the high resolution versions, it's pretty simple... Smile

But as I said debs3759, there is still a decent sized picture in the post, so even if someone can't access a particular hosting service to see a very high resolution picture for some reason, they can still see a decent picture...
