|
|
Tier Logic was founded by FPGA process-technology pioneer Raminda Madurawe
(from Altera) and was led by Doug Laird, a founder of Transmeta.
They started in 2003 but ran in stealth mode until 2010, a very long time, as they had to develop a new semiconductor process to make their chips work.
They created a unique 3-D process for FPGAs, using a standard 9-Layer TSMC 90nm process, but then adding TFT SRAM cells on top for the configuration of the FPGA, this allowed the FPGA configuration to be seperate from all the logic
Where this shined is that meant this top layer of TFT SRAM could be replaced with a standard metal ROM layer and convert the FPGA to a ASIC, all at low cost and very quickly, while preserving the timing of the FPGA
They announced their products in March of 2010 but couldn't get funding so closed on July 16th of 2010, despite having orders from customers even.
So they only chips that exist are Engineering Samples
These sets of 6 include 3 TL1F100 FPGA versions and 3 TL1A100 ASIC versions. These are all pre-production and Engineering samples. with some dated late 2009, before TierLogic was even known (they were still in hidden stealth mode then)
I have 9 sets $12 each
They are New Old Stock (probably been used in a BGA test socket, but never soldered) _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

"This is the CPU Shack Museum, but occasionally I find a chip thats not really a CPU"
..but it's a FPGA so it can become a CPU if you want it to.
(edit) That's a sad story of a very nice potential product. What's even sadder is that the technology is now owned by a patent troll. |

| So if I'm counting correctly there may be (or not) one more set available. If there is I'll take it. |

yup.
I have more of 5 of them, so further sets will be 5 different ones (and will throw in a spare TL1A100 00104/00105 ) for $10 _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!
