Got this today, very unusual one

Its marked as a SU072 which is a retail 166MHz part, but its clearly an overdrive.

Seems to be a remarked probably 125
The scanner really brings out the color different in the corner where the speed is, suggesting a repaint

Must have been from back in the days, when a 166 was more valuable than an overdrive. Today, from a collectors point of view, I would suggest an overdrive was more valuable? Or am I wrong, when the comparison is a retail part?

yah certainly was a limited time when a Pentium 166 was worth more then the 125 Overdrive (which would almost always been a retail box)

The fake was probably sold to an unsuspecting OEM

Its even possible the overdrive was stolen (hijacking Intel trucks was a big thing back in the 80's and 90's) and then remarked for even MORE profit

Xylene/Acetone based brake cleaner (the Xylene is what works well)
