|
|
I have an Advent Sienna 710 and I've been trying to find the best CPU upgrade possible for it. The motherboard name is 71r-a14hm0-9h10. It now has an i7 620m processor and the best one I've found that looks compatible is the i7 940xm. They are both compatible with the HM55 chipset and G1 socket on the motherboard but the main potential problems are that the i7 940xm does not have graphics, the BIOS may not support it, and the TDP will increase. The HM55 chipset does have integrated graphics but I don't know if this works for display. Also the cpu stepping of i7 940xm is B1, a change from K0 of the i7 620m. Apparently this means the BIOS may need upgrading or not be compatible at all. Also I'm not sure if the increase of cpu TDP from 35W to 55W is supported. I am willing to change the fan though if necessary.
I would be grateful if someone could please help me. |

The chipset does not have integrated graphics. If you do not have a dedicated GPU in the laptop, then you will be limited to dual-core parts. _________________ My collection |

| I am also open to adding a dedicated GPU if this is possible. |

It supports integrated graphics on the CPU. Intel hasn't put GPUs in their chipsets for a very long time.
Not many laptops support dedicated video cards. The ones that do often have limitations to what is supported. You'll need to do some research into your machine to see if it supports a video card or not.
Sadly with laptops, it is usually better to just buy a better machine. _________________ My collection |

From a quick google, I don't think this laptop has dedicated graphics.
As Crazybubba said, it's a good idea to buy a newer laptop if you intend to use it properly - maybe try searching for a T440p or similar. _________________ My WTB List

Well I'm pretty sure there is not space in my laptop for any other type of GPU so I don't think any upgrade is possible but thanks for your help anyway. |
