I found very early XC881100RC20. At first look I thought it is a sample.

Yah those are made the same week as samples were
I have a similar CPU from Week 49, and a an ES from week 48 LOL

I don't know if that is viewable from the photo but goldcap looks like polished and once again printed. Maybe cost-reduction from Motorola in those years with remarking ESs to end-user pieces ? Very propably as no sense to fake that chip.

Samples were the same mask so could be lol

Mine looks a little polished too, and even still has some pencil markings still

Your XC88100RC20 looks same polished and because of uneven surface the font is not so sharp as on ES or on later production. Not cleaned pencil markings are very interesting indeed Very Happy

Mine looks like it was decapped (resoldered lid). Real second hand quality from Motorola Smile
