I started collecting differrent chipsets to find out how many different dies exist. I hope to get die shots eventually, so I first need chips and information about which versions are different dies really.
I've got quite nice collection already, so I decided to list what I have together with pics. You can find first version of my list at https://www.mediafire.com/file/ecjrdsekmuogx3r/Intel_chipsets.ods/file with all Intel FCBGA chipsets I've got so far and some other Intel non-CPU chips. This is quite large file because I used pics with original quality so that markings are visible when zoomed in. All pics also have roughly the same size as real chips with 1 mm extra added to compensate for cropping error. I've delidded those that had heatspreaders, but I've taken pics with heatspreaders also. X38 has surprisingly large die, so you can now see how large.
I noticed that all similar looking chips have the same number along one edge of the substrate, so I took one example pic for each different substrate number. All chips listed for each pic look identical except markings and have the same substrate number. In some cases almost similar looking chips have different substrate number, and those indeed have some difference like different die size or component placement. I hope this helps with identification of different chips.
I'll try to add die size measurements from my pics later because that should be easy enough but I didn't have time for that yet. I'll also try to find all SSPEC missing from CPU-World database and take pics of them. Of course, I'm trying to find missing chips with different substrate numbers, so I hope others could help me collect more complete set. I also hope to get another one for die shot of those I've got only one so far. That would let me keep one as reference to compare packages and die sizes.
Then I hope to get more information about which chipset versions have the same substrate numbers as in my list. Thos I hope to get substrate number, part number and SSPEC for those I haven't listed yet so that I can add them to this list. Of course, good enough pic with that information readable is also fine. I don't want to collect all SSPEC with too many similar chips, but only information about which chipset versions and SSPEC are similar. I hope you'll help me get this information by looking at chips in collection or still on boards.
I hope you'll find this list useful as chipset identification guide and could help me add more information there. I may expand this to other chipsets than Intel ones and also wirebond chips later when I have more complete set of those. At least I've got lots of different SSPEC in different 82801 versions, so I'll try to sort them also later. |

I'll be interested if you get round to making a list to identify non-Intel chipsets on older x86 boards. A more common file format might be better though. Personally I am not installing a new app just to read a couple of files - I'm trying to make this old PC faster _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

| Maybe I should convert to PDF but I need converter that won't ruin quality of pics. |

Looking at the variety you have on your wiki, I don't think it would be unreasonable to do a similar page, if that is possible. There are a LOT of chipsets, especially if you look as broadly as you have with processors. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

And it can be archived on the Wayback Machine. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.
