Hello,
On this kind of memories, memory buffer are redundant.
This chip should manage the buffers ? I don't find this information on IBM documentation.
You Can find in attachment, another (failed) memory dimm without heat-think.

Thanks for removing the heat sink! This is a memory buffer chip. They are one the special high performance DIMMs for the Power 770 and 780 systems. There’s a bit of high level discussions about these ASICs in the RedBooks about these computers. _________________ Always on the look out for POWER, PowerPC and Power Architecture information.
