So, I've observed that for some Intel CPUs, theres engraved (or rather embossed, maybe) the clock speed in the bottom. I have in my own collection a 486DX2/66 with "i66" embossed in gold cap, Pentium 75 and 133 with "i75" and "i133" in black bottom cap, and a lot for other Pentiums embossed with "iPP".
I have seen "i50" on a DX2, but which else exists - and are they gold or black bottomed?
Sorry for the bad images .. |

They started doing this to deter counterfeiters
It made it harder to simply wipe the marking, though then some counterfeiters removes the bottom plate, hammers out the i50 and remarked at 66 _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

Yeah, I'm aware of the reason - though it seems a little odd, that I haven't seen anyone above i133? Or did Intel then realize that it didn't prevent counterfeiting, only making it marginally harder?
But are there other than the one listed? And what about gold/black? |

I will dig through my chips tonight and post here if I find any outliers. _________________ My collection |
