Hi everyone,

I currently have a server with an E5-2643 v4 CPU but I need to upgrade and since the server is still under warranty I can only buy CPU available from the manufacturer. The CPU I currently have is no longer available and I need something equivalent or better. I plan on buying 2 CPUs. The server is currently running Xen Server with 6 VM's. Of those VM there are 2 Terminal servers used by about 25 users each, a Pervasive database server, a fileserver / DC, a Windows 10 computer. Eventually, we plan on running more VM's plus more resources will be needed for the current VM's overtime. Which CPU should I get and why?

Thanks ya'll.

2683 & 2695 have same frequency but 2695 has 2 more cores => 2695 is the best choice for me if the price is not a problem. Otherwise, in any case ther will be big differences with your current CPUs.

Hi,

Thanks for your input. C'est bien apprécié. I chose the 2695. Since the frequency is less on the 2695 vs the 2643 will I have to allocate more CPU's to my VM's to compensate or although the frequency is less the specs of the CPU are better per core?

Thanks

Cores are the same between all Xeons v4, so less frequency / core, less performance. So if the users tasks are cpu intensive, you can allocate more cpus by VM, yes, it will compensate (if the applications are multithreaded of course).
