As an avid ES collector, it's tempting to start with an ES, but the first CPU that really benefited from the UCA is a Am486DX4 I found while adding support for AMD 486s.

These CPUs are still selling on eBay for quite high price right now but I just found they are fake. Actually early remarked Am486DX4-100 V8T with only 8 KB L1 cache and no write-back.

I wrote a full story with the other "fake" specs they have here :

https://x86.fr/spotting-counterfeit-am486-with-the-uca/

Any thoughts about this CPU? Let us know! Smile

Thank you for this. I agree with your analysis - the date code is much too recent for package 25253. The mis-spelling clinches the conclusion that it is fake.

I have an identical-looking fake sample, and would like to confirm your finding after I can get a UCA.

I also have one with exactly the same datecode, bought in Russia, it's desoldered.
So they are quite widespread.

As far as I know, the only 486-class CPU from AMD with 16KB L1 cache was 5x86 (or 486 DX5 as it was also named).
So there are not (or should not be) any other 486-class CPU from AMD with 16KB L1 cache.
Intel had 16KB L1 cache in its last gen 486-class processor, the DX4.

AMD datasheet https://en.wikichip.org/w/images/1/13/AMD_Enhanced_Am486_%28March%2C_1997%29.pdf disagrees with you. There was also DX2-66 and DX4-100 with 16KB write-back cache.

From the UCA software interface, it displays as DX4-100 V8T, but the reference photo is a DX4-100SV8B..... I guess it is a bug? Razz

On the fake one, by looking at the "windows compatible sign", the print looks too smooth.

Looking at all my AMD 486 100MHz, It should look pixelized...

Now, I am looking forward the UCA production and will be interested to test out all my collection to see what they really are Cool

I also had some doubts about that "Windows 95" logo, but they appear to be legit.

Real V16BGI is package number 25544, not 25253

I wrote some lines about the SYE36 ES, one of first DX2-66 sample. Smile
