Motherboard and CPU problems

Lately I worked with two computers: one had a Asus A7A266 motherboard with an AMD Athlon XP 2400+; the other had a Asus A7V266-E with an AMD MP 1800+. I wanted to invert CPUs, so i put the 2400+ into the A7V266-E, before doing that i checked on the Asus Page of the motherboard if i could install the 2400+ on It. But now this configuration (A7V266-E with Athlon 2400+) gives me problems, when i power the computer, instead of saying "AMD Athlon XP 2400+" , It says "AMD Athlon processor with 1800 MHz". And It goes in the BIOS to ask me the CPU speed, which Is lower of the choises of the other motherboard. Can you tell me if the motherboard can really support the processore?

Have you tried updating the BIOS to the latest revision?
