The NEC 8218 on the odd chips page isnt odd at all. It just a CerDIP that has been 'keyringed'!

IE its had its legs cut off at the body and filed flat. The keyring hole at one end is a dead giveaway. I used to do the same to some plastic 8748's.

I actually have a 72 Pin Simm as a keyring atm Very Happy

Rolling Eyes

Nice. A good way to get your daily lead fix from the solder, not to mention any other possible chemicals.

The picture is not clear enough to see it - if you look at actual chip you'll see that the chip never had pins, so it looks like an CLCC chip with contact pads on only two sides of the chip. As for the hole - I don't know why the chip has it, I have about 10 DEC 8218 chips and they all have a hole in the same place.
