I have a Dell Optiplex GX280 I would like to use as a NAS. Its just sitting there doing nothing and I can put 4 HDDs in it, maybe 6. The problem is, it is a 32 bit system and all the software Ive looked at is 64 bit.
I thought I would change to a 64 bit chipset. It has a 775 socket and a Pentium 4 540 cpu. I have been looking at this page for potential replacements http://www.cpu-world.com/Related_CPUs/Socket%20775_Netburst.html. I believe any of these chips will plug into the socket, but will the motherboard operate it? The Pentium D945 is of particular interest to me. How can I determine which CPU(s) will work in my motherboard? Thank you. |

| Do yourself a favor: ditch that boat anchor of a computer and get a NAS or RPi with some external drives. |
