| Hello, I am new and I hope this is the right place to post this question. I have a Compaq Presario SR5019UK AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3800+ 2.4Ghz M2N68-LA Motherboard - it's a lovely machine and I would like to upgrade to 4 cores - Quad Core. Please can anyone tells me which one is the right one to exchange ? Thanks. |

HP / Compaq used at least 6 different motherboards, all with model name M2N68-LA. The boards have quite different CPU compatibility, so you will need to determine which one you have. Look on the motherboard for a label that says Narra# where # is a number. If you can't find it, then try using a utility such as CPU-Z or HWiNFO to get this information. From there, you can look up CPU compatibility.
Since you currently have Athlon 64 3800+ at 2.4 GHz, which should be a single core socket AM2 processor, that means you likely have a AM2 motherboard, and can only upgrade to 2-core CPU. Unless you have a AM2+ motherboard, in which case, you may be able to upgrade to a 4-core Phenom. |
