I recently obtained 6 dual CPU cards from 2 Sun M4000 servers. 4 from one and 2 from the other. 5 of them contained a pair of MBCS200502B-4C6M as expected. The last one however was a bit odd. It contained 1x MBCS200502B-4C6M and 1x MBCS200502B-4C5M... soldered on the same card.
I can understand if your yields don't align well with your orders, you may disable some of the cache on some of your processors and remark them. Or possibly you'd throw a CPU card with a larger amount of cache into a 4 or 8 CPU server if you didn't have enough with the lower cache. But I can't make sense of a machine with 4 or 8 CPUs where just one of them has less cache than all of the others, or making a dual CPU module with non-matching CPUs. Any thoughts? |
