|
|
Months ago, i got two Athlon 64 1500+ CPUs from a CPU world sale, when they arrived, decided to give them an try and run on desktop board. First decided to try on my Foxconn Winfast K8S755A which is the current Socket 754 testbed, i remembered Mr. Scott mentioned in the sale thread that there no known motherboards able to boot said CPU at the time, suspringly the CPU booted fine in the board, although i had to modify the cpu cooling rentention to let the cooler reach the die (also needed for running mobile cpus as well) and cover the caps with tap to avoid any posible shots.

First will post some pics: |

Benchmarks will come in succesive posts. Is also worth mentioning the CPU lacks Cool and Quiet and it always run at 1 GHz no matter the situation. I haven't tested other socket 754 boards, but i will do eventually.
Some benchmarks i've ran on it were:
3DMark 2000, 2001SE and 03
Quake III Arena timedemo
Wprime 32m
Super Pi 1M
Cinebench 2003 and R10
Source Engine benchmark from Counter Strike: Source (2004 ver)
7-Zip 19.00
AIDA64 memory benchmarks
Test system specs:
AMD Athlon 64 1500+
Foxconn WinFast K8S755A (SiS 755)
1 GB DDR 400 CL3
Geforce 7300 GT DDR2 AGP
200 GB IDE HDD
Windows XP Pro SP3
Benchmark scores comming in the next posts + comparsion with other CPUs
Test system specifications for other CPUs:
Socket A:
ASUS A7N8X Rev 2.0 (Nvidia nForce2 Ultra 400)
1 GB Dual channel DDR 266 CL2 (FSB 266), 333 CL2.5 (FSB 333), 400 CL3 (FSB 400), RAM runs synced with FSB speed
Geforce 7300 GT DDR2 AGP
200 GB IDE HDD
Windows XP Pro SP3
Socket 478:
ASUS P4P800 SE (Intel 865PE)
1 GB Dual channel DDR 266 CL2 (FSB 400), 333 CL2.5 (FSB 533), 400 CL3 (FSB 800)
Geforce 7300 GT DDR2 AGP
200 GB IDE HDD
Windows XP Pro SP3
Socket 754:
Same board/system as Athlon 64 1500+

3DMark scores.
Comments:
3DMark2000: Athlon 64 1500+ does there extremenly well, but the benchmark is also known for heavily disliking Netburst
3DMark2001 SE: it starts falling behind, but still competetitive against slower Netburst and Athlon XP
3DMark03: i don't know why the Socket 754 platform isn't scoring as well as the fastest Socket A chips, i ran multiple times without difference. Besides that, the 64 1500+ still remains competitive against the slower Netburst and Athlon XP |

My issue is, I'm an overclocker. Gotta try to find a good board with a lot of control.
I will find the board you're using and volt mod it if I have to.
Bet you can get that chip to 3 GHz. |

Oh well, never tried to overclock it and this board lacks voltage options I think. At least the CPU booted, will see if any of my other 754 boards will boot |

Keep me updated.
I know the NF4 754 boards don't work and also the DFI NF3 250 gb board doesn't. |

| FYI I was able to get the DFI Lan Party UT nF3 250Gb working with the ADC1500B2X4BX. This was with BIOS dated 2005-06-23. |
