Definitely not an eprom - it doesn't have the window (unless maybe it's an EEPROM, but it looks too old for that). I would be interested to know what it is though (and that'll be good when doing a search on the part number another time...)

In this case I would think it is the package that sold the chips. Factoring in the bubblecam effect (that's not a criticism), it does look like a nice chip - it would look good in many collections, even if nobody knows what it is Smile

Actually yes ,that's pretty much it there. I have a friend that gave me a few unknowned mobo's and such...And plus some boxes containing a few "nice chips". To me, that's what they are if I don't know what they are, they are still really nice chips and well ,I was'nt going to refuse a box of chips just because I did'nt know what they are now eh ? Would you(slava) Wink

Just for your info: EPROMs without window do exist! These are called OTP EPROMs (one-time programmable). They can be programmed with a standard EPROM programmer but can't be erased.
The quartz glass window requires a firm seating, thus requiring ceramic packaging. Leaving out the window, the EPROM chip can be packed into cheap plastic making the OTP EPROM somewhat cheaper than "real" EPROMs.

They were intended for small series (mask-programmed ROM has too much setup cost) / small companies (don't have a PROM programmer but an EPROM programmer).

I don't know if they are still made. Probably they are now superseeded by the EEPROMs.

Yes, that is the essence of the OTP or PROM, and I can say they are widely used today. I use them by the bucket load. Smile
Nice and CHEAP!
