Hello lovely people!

I have a few questions I had a hard time finding an answer on the net,

- was it common for Amd to use higher frequency core instead of lower core or was it just to use a failed core in lower freq?

- is it possible for one of these cpus to fry a mobo? like a dead short?

Thanks

I think that, as all cores of the same generation come off the same wafer, it is more likely that they looked for dies that binned well to be selected for higher speeds than the other way around. Otherwise they would have to test every die on every wafer, which seems to me to be unlikely.

I saw a 600 etched on a 500 rated part, 800 on 700.
I read others reporting 900 for 600/650, and many others likewise.

I was wondering if after testing before marketing they had some sort of QC for that.
Maybe it's just to fill the gap with known good parts.

Just curious.

AMD bins for higher speeds.
Yes, sometimes they back fill low production skus with better grade processors to fulfill demand.
Yes it is possible to have 'board killer' processors. I have had a few.

Be very careful! I mean it. It's easy to damage the plastic case.
In YT you can find videos on how.
