Posted: Wed Apr 08, 2009 3:36 pm Post subject: The Pentium Timeline Project going online |
|
|
Hi!
The first version of the Pentium Timeline Project are now ready to go public. jrmunro and i have been staring our eyes red on chips for the last two weeks and reviewed hundreds of them. All to be put in a spreadsheet and to be published as a timeline.
The data are not guaranteed not having any fakes since we do not have access to the actual chip, but we have done our best to check it. Next step is to gather all images found and make a reference catalog. This will not be online because of image copyright issues.
I have used a so called Gadget in Google docs and connected this to a spreadsheet also on Google to create a interactive timeline.
Check the timeline here http://www.chipdb.org/index.php?template=timeline (I had some problems loading in IE6 and 7 but a reload or two has solved it. Sorry but can not do anything since its a Google app) If you use the popout function please note that you need a resolution 1024 or higher and press F11 in your browser to see all timelines.
If you want to see the acutal data it can be viewed here
A new version, or perhaps another type are in my head, which will concentrate on differences between chips. For example when where the PROCESSOR logo used on a P60/66? Stay tuned.
Posting this are also a request to all collectors to go AFK and check your trade chips and not-online pieces. I have no doubt you have chips that will change some timelines. Post it here in the thread. You will have to provide a image for reference.
And lastly a big thanks to John (jrmunro) who helped with the data gathering! _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Now over 6000 different chips in the database. |

I have tested it in IE6 and got that to, but a reload or two solves it for me. Strange that Google Chrome does not run it, because its a Google app hosted by Google. _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Added some events to the data. Official release dates (that i could find) and some events during the FDIV bug affair.
I must say its pretty interesting to see the data this way. According to Thomas Nicely (who found the FDIV bug) his sources later said that they had been aware of the FDIV bug since May 1994 (Added as May 15:th). When looking at the timeline, Intel seems to have made FDIV bug s-specs months after this and even after the FDIV replacement program started. (SX960 for example). _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Now over 6000 different chips in the database. |
