I have two identical AWS-1100v4 cpu. It is a QS not an ES. Works with the retail broadwell microcode.

On both of my pc-s none of the pcie lanes working. Latest bios.
Asrock X99 and HP Z440.
It only works with very old video cards (GT240, 7600GT but not with GTX580, HD6750) and only in pcie 1.0-2.0 mode

This cpu has limited pcie lanes?
In the X99 mobo cant even handle nvme drives because of the missing lanes.
In the Z440 video card only works in the pcie2.0 1x slot that connects to PCH. It looks like all of the cpu pcie lanes are missing. Both CPUs have this problem.
There is no issue with any v3 or v4 cpus, just with these AWS cpus.
Or it is a bug?

Yes, it do have few or none pcie lanes. Just i dont know how many is has. It is not 40, and it is less than 16x i think. Two cpus the same, so it is not a fault but a factory limitation.

I've been doing this a while, and I've never even heard of a Xeon AWS CPU.....

?

Is this a chip tailored to AWS workloads where they don't need much PCIe since it's just handling cloud computing / virtualized workloads?

It is a 4 way cpu. And for Amazon web services.
It is like 2676v4 in usa and 2681v4 in china. But those have full pcie lanes but only for dual cpus.

There a lot of hardwares special made for Amazon only. They use ES/QS in live servers.
I have an engineering sample Amd Radeon Pro V540 that not released but used it Amazon servers. Dual GPU Navi12 with HMB2 vram. Works only under linux and with special drivers.

I have the exact same issue with my AWS-1000 v3.

It seems to be something to do with the custom specifications Amazon ordered from Intel.

On my Huanan X99-TF, only the middle PCIe x16 slot works. On my Asrock X99 ITX, the only PCIe slot works fine.

HP Z440 is mobo with bad manners.
Could you check it in Gigabite mobo?
