Just wanted to share an interesting find of mine. Figured it was deserving of a separate post since this is somewhat unusual.

I got a blank LGA1366 chip from a small electronics recycler a few months back and finally got around to testing it.

It originally had "2.93" sharpie'd on it.

I can't quite tell if the chip was lasered and later ground off, or if it was simply unmarked from the factory.

Anyways, it ended up being a functional chip!

This appears to be an engineering sample (and a rather late one at that) for a D0 stepping revision of the i7-940!

This part never got a retail s-spec for the D0 stepping, and there aren't any documented D0 stepping i7-940 ES QDF specs on this site.

I decoded the data matric on the PCB to N3840050J0192

HWInfo64 incorrectly assumes the QDF to Q1HP.

Any ideas what this part could be?

Some OEM non-production part?

It looks like it was sanded down, with all the scratch marks going in the same direction. Probably for better contact with a cooler.

Most of my pictures for LGA1366 have the same pattern. I believe this is unmarked.
