Looking for some help to identify a die I extracted from a remarked chip branded as a Yamaha YM2612.

It clearly is not a YM2612, YM3438, or even a YM3812. Other posts on the internet show a lot of fake Yamaha's are remarked RAM chips. But this clearly isn't that either.

My best guess at a glance would be some kind of interface chip or controller. Looks too simple to be a DSP or CPU of any kind.

It's also possible it's another sound chip, I've just exhausted most of the ones that fit the form factor, eg AY-3-8912.

And the lack of markings doesn't really help much either.
