Here are some nice National Semi COP400 (Control Oriented Processor) 4-bit MCUs
These are the second generation (the first was a PMOS design) and came in many forms
They originally were released in 1977-78
The COP404LS is the development version for the COP444L. It is a ROMless version (using external memory)
These run at 2MHz and are in a nice glossy PDIP40
