|
|
Well, I am the beneficiary of a pallet or two of old PC's.
They are complete and I am beginning to turn them on and
boot them to BIOS to check their configurations.
I hate to part them down as they are pieces of computer history.
Anyone wanting and working P2 / P3 PC? I have probably 50+
IDE hard drives that I have pulled over the years for such an
opportunity as this.
The cases are what the cases are. Possibly yellowed. Possibly
cracked. But if someone(s) feeling nostalgic or adventurous, please
respond here of PM me.
Manufacturers are IBM, Compaq, HP, Dell, Gateway and Acer. |

What I do is find old Microsoft Windows 2000/XP and install it with the hard drive in place. It doesn't matter if the CMOS battery is dead as long as you have the power plug in place if it is on or not.
Build up the OS, then put your favorite processor identification utility to gather much of the CPU information. Once you are done with that, I would take the CPU off from the board and present the CPU along with the information of the specimen |

I can inventory them by MFG, make and model. |

I used to like complete PCs (and some other systems) but have recently had to accept I'll never have space for a collection the size of mine, and my health seems unlikely to ever be good enough to test or play around with most of what I have (hence slowly selling off everything).
It used to annoy me how many sellers strip down old systems to sell or scrap parts without considering the potential value of complete systems. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

Exactly!
I also have another half a pallet of old PC's and laptops that
I have been holding on to so that I can try and save them for
posterity one day. |

I picked up a couple SGIs from Connecticut a couple weeks back. I'm currently in the process of installing IRIX on the SGI Origin 300; replacing a fan first. _________________ My CPU List (Trades and For Sale) |
