Hello
What do you mean "newer processor" ? Safe will be mount Pentium Pro 200 MHz 512 kb cache L2. Some of mobos not support 1 MB cache Pentium Pro.

By the way. It is server or desktop PC ?

there also is a 333MHz upgrade CPU for the PPRO.

And I believe powerleap makes an adapter as well.

Here is PowerLeap adapter for Socket 8 :
http://rosperos.com/konwert/PL-ProII.htm.
This can use Celeron PPGA 533 MHz. When you add PPGA-FCPGA adapter on this you can use Pentium and Celeron 1,1 Ghz (without Tualatin).
