We've been getting a lot of spam bots lately signing up on the forum as new users. I'm getting tired of deleting these bogus users... To prevent the bots from signing up I added visual confirmation to forum registration page.
To all new users - visual confirmation code is case sensitive. If you have a problem registering on the board please post in the forum, preferrably in this thread.

How about this:
Show a picture of an object, lets say a bicycle for example. Have 5 Choices on the right to select from (A would have Airplane, B would have Car, C would have pumpkin) So instead of identifying characters such as numbers and letters, you'd have to identify an object. Could something like that be done? I'm betting they wont be able to know the difference between a pumpin and an orange. _________________ http://www.RareCPUs.com

hehe thhose work but have limits, as WHAT the imagfe is will appear in the code.
The numbers/letters are actually generated in the script, so they cant be read out of the source. _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

Unsure what effect the changes you have made have done, but in the last few hours I have moved 2 Spam messages. And it had seemed to have quitened a little.
I like the picture idea, that is clever. _________________ 4000+ chips.

Showing a picture is a good idea, but it may create problems for new forum members who doesn't speak English very well.
I think activation of visual confirmation helped - we don't have as many bogus registrations now as two days ago.

Due to big number of forum spammers using mail.ru domain all @mail.ru e-mail addresses are now banned. If you're a ligitimate user please use different e-mail account to register in the forum.

I tweaked forum registration script to prevent spammers from signing up in the forum. I hope that these tweaks will block more spammers than just visual confirmation. If the tweaks will work then I'll probably disable visual confirmation.
If any user has a problem registering please post in this thread or in off-topic forum.

My recent tweaks to registration script seems to be stopping most of the spammers, so I removed visual confirmation from registration page.
