Can a 478 cpu chip fit in a 423 socketed mobo? _________________ The condition of being free from restriction or control. |

| I have seen adaptors to go the other way.. S423 to s478.. but not 478 -> 423. |

Yes, if you use Socket 423 upgrade adapter like this one:
