I need to get a new pc. In preparation for Vista I know I should go with a 64 bit processor. Which platform would you recommend I go with? Intel or Amd? Cost is a factor. I want at least a gig of ram. I also want to keep the cost around 800 or so. I will be working with big audio wav files (over a gig). Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Core 2 Duo E6600 (but it will be hard with 800$...)

Even Core 2 Duo E6300 looks good to me, and its price is great - $183. I usually buy AMD chips, but after reading today's Core 2 Duo reviews I started thinking about getting one of new Intel chips. If $183 is still expensive for you then wait a little bit - AMD should drop prices on their processors later this month.

I hope it will be true. I would like to buy X2 to my home but 300 USD isn't acceptable. Half price could be ok Smile

I wanted to build new computer, so I'm going to wait for price drop first.
