Hi all

Got an Athlon 1300 running on an OEM board (unable to find make/model) with an old heatsink & fan from a P3 computer.

It runs BUT it's hitting 60 degrees C on installing windows. On idle it seems to hit 50.

Is this ok? - On the Athlon 1300 page it says that it can go upto 95.

Anything I should be aware of? - Any advice?

I've been grabbing the temperature directly from the bios (IE restart after heavy workload [XP install]).

All advice appreciated!

YAAAAAAAAAA ! I've got your advice Wink
Take that P3 Cooler and fan off of there Pleeeeeeeeeease !
Don't mistreat an Athlon, they deserve better then that Laughing

I got a 1300 in my kids pc, works great ! At full load, max temp is at 48'C.
So that should say something there....AMD Socket 462 cooler&fan are cheap now a days, I'd invest in one to protect your chip!

Don't use Pentium III heatsink/fan on this processor. Maximum power dissipation of Athlon 1300 is almost twice as high as of those of Pentium III. No wonder your processor runs at 50 degrees in idle mode.
