I do know for a fact that over extremly heated cpu will change the color of the heatspreader....like if a cpu has stayed on overclocked for a prolonging time and it was high heat, the heatspreader normaly fades in color ! Hence the lighter heatspreader color you see before you !
Sometimes also, the metal that was used for that heatspreader might have been weaken, again explaining the rapid absortion of heat, hence damaging the color or texture of the metal.

I also found out that the "cpu coolers" are done the same way.....By heating certain metals....they create various color paterns, like the reddish tinge, bronze, blueish...etc..Allthought now probly most a manufacture paint, they still use these methodes for sure on the "highdensity coolers" because the paint would not last and could wrinckle, chip and or flake apart.
