CPU working or not ?

I've got an asus mobo with a p4 processor on it. The mobo is not working.

All the bits that were on the pc worked once removed from the broken motherboard. The RAM was okay, all the PCI hardware and the AGP card were okay. Even the hd was fine.

Now, I tested all those bits and bobs on old machines, but as for the p4 cpu...how do I test it without risking a (relatively) new mobo ?

Is there some other way to test a CPU ?
