This is probably a question for Frank, the pentium pro king..
Does anyone run Xp on a pentium pro system ( single, dual or quad cpu) ?
Does it work ok? etc.. |

Why should it not work But Quad systems... hmm... dunno whether XP takes 4 CPU or not. I believe no. I used Win2000 AS or ES. _________________ Frank. |

My experience is not good with multiple cpu. I have a request for some simple computers. ( i.e. FREE ) .. and I have some pentium pro parts so it makes sense! I thought I would try it and see if it worked ok. I found some posts on usenet that said it works ok for some, but not for others.
I traded all my pentium pro overdrives 333Mhz, so I am also looking for one if anyone has one! |

XP Home - max 1 CPU
XP PRO - max 2 CPUs
2000/2000 Pro/Server - max 2 CPUs
2000 Advanced Server - max 8 CPUs
I used 2000 Advanced Server on Quad Pentium Pro. Works very well
PS I looking for Pentium II Overdrive 333 too. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Yes and no. It's legal to do some tricks that make your home edition to a Pro Edition. But I don't recommend XP for playing around. Win2k is much faster on old machines _________________ Frank. |

I have a Fujitsu-Siemens server based on a P-Pro 200/256KB .I added 256MB RAM 72c (2x64MB + 4x32MB) and now it's running Windows XP Pro perfectly.
The performance is a little slow but it runs good to work. |

I have a dual Xeon 2.66 GHz machine. Each of the CPUs supports hyperthreading. Windows 2000 Pro used to see only two processors, but after I installed XP Pro, 4 of them were reported.
I believe that Microsoft changed its licensing so the numbers mentionned above apply to physical processors rather than cores or logical processors a few years ago.
It's probably easy to find a definitive response to this on the web.
