Hey guys
Unfortunately, my PC-XT memory extension card did not work yesterday.
some componte is maybe in failure on the card, I have to looking for another one for my XT,
This card can extend 256K ram to 640Kb if it is working. If you have redundant one of this card. please PM to me. I'll send my rare CPU trade list for you for swap.
Thanks for your attention!

Hi,
could you perhaps specify what kind of problems with this card do you have ?
You should check and replace the battery on your card. (I marked it red.)
In my opinion an exhausted battery can cause all the trouble. It's unlikely that other component failed - the early XT cards are not easy to damage !
You should also try to clean the ISA contacts of the card and to remove dust from the ISA slot on the mainboard. If you insert the card in the slot and extract it two or three times it could work.
And the last chance to force this card to work - you should extract EACH of socketed chips from the board, clean their contacts and insert them back in their sockets again. Don't extract the all chips at once - you could insert the chip in the wrong socket by mistake. Extract them ONE BY ONE.
I hope this helps. |

Thanks for your kind help.
The problems is : mother board can not find this card when I cleaned the dust on the card, then I've replaced battery with new one, try each slot to test, but still not work.
By the way ,the new battery is 3.6 v but the old one no marking. I can't make sure it is OK or not.
So I think some componets or PCB line will be broken.. _________________ Webmaster of China Collector's Site

No, the drivers are not necessary. The XT memory cards are configured with DIP switches or jumpers.
The drivers should be used only with 16-Bit ISA memory expansion cards (they add up to 8 MB memory to a 286 system).
OR
with XT cards which add memory above 1MB to a XT computer (such 8-Bit boards do exist - but they are extremely rare)
To OrBit:
I found an old topic regarding a memory expansion card.
http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3960&highlight=
The author of this topic purchased a wrong type of expansion board. (He wanted to upgrade a 16-Bit 80286 system, but he purchased a 8-Bit memory expansion board for XT)
Perhaps you should ask this forum member if he will sell the card to you. |
