|
|
I just got a new computer and the only problem is the DVD RW device.
When i copy something from CD or DVD to the HD, the computer slows down, and everything seems to be kinda stucked while the DVD device is working. I also looked at the device configuration and it works with PIO, and does not allow DMA from the O.S. (The device itself does according to the specifications).
thanks |

Have a look at:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/IDE-DMA.mspx
If you computer is a few years old check to see if the DVD rom drive is on the same channel as the HD? If so, move the DVD to another channel. I dont think it hurts to move it to another channel even on a new computer.
How much system memory do you have? Adding more will help. |

The computer is new and should't have problems, it has a PD 3.4, 1GB RAM, MSI P965 Platinum MoBo, 250 GB HDD, etc.
About the DMA channels, i can't change that from the BIOS because the CMOS settings only show the 6 SATA2 ports status, not PATA (don't know why) |

| Still the same. I don't understand, both the MoBo & DVD RW allow UltraDMA, but the device manager won't let me configure it. I'm starting to think it's the O.S. |

I went into the bios and changed the disks controller to RAID (Jmicron)instead of IDE, and now it works, but i don't know if that could become unstable or something.
Is there something I should consider? |

I've read that when the jumpers are removed on these, they lose there firmware. _________________ All I know is, I don't Know everything.
