|
|
Hey everyone, I recently acquired a large lot of AMD opteron engineering sample processors.
I have been able to get every model to run... aside from this thing
The part number is 2S232245T8439
I've got about 32 of these things, and I'd really like to get it running somehow.
Based off of the AMD Eng sample identification page on this site ( http://www.cpu-world.com/info/id/AMD-ES-identification.html ) it can be assumed that the CPU's specs are:
2 = Prototype
S = Server
23 = 2.30GHz base clock
22 = ??? (supports dual-processing?)
45 = 115W, G34
T = G34 package
8 = 8 cores
4 = 2MB L2 cache per module, no L3.
39 = ??? (38 and 40 are Bobcat, would this also be bobcat?)
Is it safe to assume that this thing is some kind of oddball bobcat-based G34 server chip?
My test system is an HP Proliant DL385 G7 updated to the newest BIOS available.
If anyone has any ideas on how to proceed with this part, please let me know.
Thanks! |

You could try an older BIOS. early ES support is dropped from later BIOSs, etc etc _________________ My WTB List

Alright, I tried the oldest bios I could find (dated ~2011). Same result.
If anyone has an older bios for an HP DL385 G7 server, please let me know. I've been unable to find many BIOSes available for this system.
Interestingly, there seems to be several steppings of these chips.
The chips marked between B3565 and B4933 are 'FA U05L500'
The chips marked between B5785 and B5790 are 'FA U060C0F'
The chips marked between B5998 and B6078 are 'FA U060700'
I have tried each stepping with no change in result.
I also tried removing all system RAM in an effort to get the machine to beep or do ANYTHING other than lighting an amber LED on the CPU1 indicator. |

| I think the B#### are serial numbers. FA is the stepping. |

Yeah, I find it interesting that they've got 3 different steppings across the batch of the same model.
Too bad none of them POST in my server |

I think you will find they are all the same stepping (FA). The Uxxxxxx will be the batch code. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

Flashed the 2010 firmware today.
Sadly it's acting the same as it was before.
If anyone has any other ideas, I'm all ears.
Edit:
After reading through the service manual again, an amber LED on CPU1 means "Processor in socket X is in a pre-failure condition".
Whatever that means... |
