I'm upgrading a mobo (M863G pcchip) from a athlon xp 1800 chip to a Barton athlon xp 2800 chip. I bought the chip off ebay and my mobo website shows the chip to be compatible but when I boot up I do not get a post. I made a boot disk with the BIOS flash on it and tried to boot to that but still get no response from my system , no post no bios choices like f2 or del to enter setup. My dvd-cd rom lights flash and it sounds like my HDD is seaching but never post or any BIOS choice. Does any one know of something I'm doing wrong?
I'm starting to think the chip is dead.

Russ:
Did you try to clear the CMOS before changing the CPU?
If that doesnt work youŽll be better of trying to test the barton on some mates board.
