|
|
Hi, I have a KOBIAN motherboard, model KVM400M that has a VIA chipset. I am running a AMD Duron 1600Mhz, family 6, Model 8, a multiplier of x 12, bus speed of 133 Mhz and Rated FSB at 266.7 Mhz.-Please could you tell me the highest freq Duron I could upgrade to ?
Will an Athlon chip fit in a Socket A (462), and if so what would be the highest Spec I could upgrade to?
Regards,
Mark G. |

Highest Duron that was produced is 1800 model.
Athlon XP up to 2600+ model should work on your motherboard, with 133 mhz FSB.
With 166 mhz FSB, if your motherboard supports it, Athlon Xp 3000+. |

| Someone is selling an AMD Athlon 2600 with a 333MHz FSB - is this compatible with a 133Mhz FSB ? |

Yes, but would work at lesser speed because mhz are obtained by FSB * clock multiplier of processor, eg
166mhz fsb (in reality 166.66 mhz) * 12.5 = 2083, a 2800+ Xp
but the same cpu at 133.33 mhz fsb * 12.5 = 1666.67 mhz, a 2000+ XP,
a total waste of cpu power.
This is a rough example, but you get the point.
You can unlock the multiplier manually, there are many guides on the net. Easy task if you really want. |

| I believe the athlon XP-M would suffice in that board- They are quite strong and have high multi's at low FSB ratings. |
